Negan has Dwight put him back in the cell he spent the majority of the third episode in. But perhaps not as broken as Negan thinks when Negan is ready to take Carl back to Alexandria, Daryl actually begins to threaten him. AMCĭaryl is completely powerless and basically working as a janitor. Dwight and Sherry continue their awkward smoke breaks together where they mostly regret the terrible choices they've made. Since we're in Savior HQ, we also see more of Daryl, Dwight and Sherry. Some men get punished with a literal hot iron branded on their face Carl is simply forced to sing a song. Not because he cares, but because he wants Carl to like him, to be impressed with everything Negan has built. When he sees Carl grow upset, he immediately backs off. Negan makes Carl remove his bandaged eye, then makes fun of how gross it looks. But he seems to genuinely enjoy Carl, if just to show off like an older brother returning home from college. Negan is a bully and a sociopath, showing no real remorse or care for his actions. The relationship between Negan and Carl remains uncomfortable. This whole 90-minute episode provided a good look into Negan's society, including his fearful harem, his kneeling foot soldiers and his barbaric criminal justice system. He takes Carl on a little tour of his home base, and strokes his massive ego by showing off the power he holds. Even after Carl shoots another one of his men and Dwight tackles him to the ground, Negan is more impressed than angry. Carl grabs an assault rifle and begins shooting moments after the first Savior starts to unload the truck.Ĭredit to Jeffery Dean Morgan once again for making Negan both strangely likable and terrifyingly menacing at the same time. Jesus hops out before the truck stops, thinking Carl is right behind him. Turns out it's a gigantic factory, surrounded by a large force of chained zombies and indentured workers - including Daryl. Both he and Jesus wanted to find out where Negan actually lived. Some scavenge to gather supplies for the Saviors, while others begin developing foolhardy plans to go after Negan.Ĭarl is the most foolhardy of them all, making it all the way to the main man himself, but his assassination attempt doesn't exactly go as planned.Īs we saw two weeks ago, Carl hitched a ride aboard a truck bound for Negan that was leaving the Hilltop. Negan's new world order has begun to divide our group, both physically and emotionally. This week we finally return to Rick and the folks at Alexandria.

He "has not," Cruz spokeswoman Catherine Frazier emailed. We asked Cruz’s campaign if Cruz had ever said Obama couldn’t be president for anything connected to his birthplace. Our searches led us only to a March 26, 2015, web post on saying the same Cruz hasn’t made these comments. My father and place of birth are irrelevant."Įxcept, ahem, an extensive search of the Nexis news database and online news sources yields no sign of Cruz, a Houston lawyer elected to the Senate in 2012, making either statement. The Facebook post, making the case for Cruz’s flip-flop, says Cruz said March 23, 2015, the day he announced his presidential candidacy: "All you need to know about my parentage is my mother was a citizen. (See a full rundown of Cruz’s eligibility in this updated PolitiFact story.) And if that’s the definition, then Cruz is a natural born citizen by being born to an American mother and having her citizenship at birth. What does it mean to be a "natural born citizen"? Most legal experts contend it means someone is a citizen from birth and doesn’t have to go through a naturalization process to become one. The candidate also must be 35 years of age and a U.S. That comment would have been of a piece with inaccurate "birther" charges about the Democratic president, who was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in August 1961 to an American mother and Kenyan father.Īt issue is the constitutional provision requiring any president to be a "natural born citizen" of the United States-meaning the person must be a citizen at birth, most legal experts concur. The post quotes the pictured Cruz, who was born in Calgary, Alberta, in December 1970 to an American mother and a Cuban-born father, saying Barack "Obama’s mother’s citizenship is irrelevant since his father wasn’t American and he wasn’t born in America. We speak of this March 26, 2015, Facebook post: Canadian-born Ted Cruz, the Texas senator lately embarked on a bid for president, conveniently flip-flopped on whether a candidate needs to be born in the United States to run for president, an online meme suggests. Types of Edge Pieces The second step in the reduction Method is to pair up matching edge pieces. For more detail on this step and examples of Solving center pieces, please refer to the video tutorials linked at the beginning of this document. To solve the last two centers, we can take the same approach, and solve the center on the front face again using 1x3 bars (inner and then 2*outer). As you solve more center pieces, your move set will be slightly more restricted. After Solving the first two centers on opposite sides, hold them on the left and right hand side of the cube and solve pieces of a third and fourth center.ģ Make sure to solve two adjacent centers as your third and fourth centers. After you have solved the first center, you can solve the pieces of the center on the opposite side in the same fashion, but without messing up the completed first center. One simple strategy to do this is to solve the inner 1x3 bar comprised of two edge centers and the middle center, and then create the outer 1x3 bars (comprised of two corner centers and an edge center), and attach those to the first 1x3 bar. Example Moves R (Outer Face) Rw (Wide turn) 3Rw (Wide turn 3 layers) Middle Centers (fixed) Corner Centers Edge Centers Solving The Centers The first step in this Method is to solve one center. On a 5x5, there are three different types of center pieces, which cannot be interchanged with one another the middle (fixed) centers, corner centers, and edge centers. On a 4x4 cube there were no fixed center pieces, however on a 5x5 cube (and all odd-layered cubes) there are fixed center pieces.Ģ That is, the center piece that lies directly in the middle of each side denotes the final colour of that side, just like on a 3x3. Types of Center Pieces The first step in Solving the 5x5 is to solve the center pieces. Essentially, this involves reducing the cube to a state that can be solved as if it were a 3x3 cube, by Solving the center pieces and pairing up the matching edge pieces. The Reduction Method To solve the 5x5, we will use what is known as the reduction Method. The same principle applies to moves on other faces of the cube. To notate a wide turn of 3 layers, we simply add a 3 before the Rw. On the 4x4 cube, an Rw denoted a wide turn of two layers, and this is the same on the 5x5. ELĪs well as being the name of the letter L (you can play EM and EN as well), an EL is an elevated railroad. You can use DE as a synonym of "from" or "of." 8. All of the words listed here are included on both lists, and so are officially playable in any English language game. In the rest of the English-speaking world-including the UK and Australia- Scrabble players use the so-called SOWPODS list, which combines Merriam-Webster’s Official Scrabble Player’s Dictionary and the Official Scrabble Words list produced by The Chambers Dictionary. Note: In North America, all the words that are officially acceptable in a game of Scrabble are listed on the TWL or Official Tournament Word List. More than 100 two-letter words are acceptable in Scrabble 22 of the most unfamiliar and most bizarre of which are listed here. If you play the word DREAM directly beneath it, one letter below the other, then you’ll not only pick up points for using your D, R, E, A, and M, but you’ll also score for the words ED, AR, RE, TA, and HM that are formed between the two. So imagine, for instance, that your opponent has just played the word EARTH. But among competitive Scrabble players, two-letter words are a crafty means of boosting your score: Instead of linking one word perpendicularly to another, try playing one word directly on top of, alongside, or overlapping another on the board to form a chain of two-letter words between the two. In a race to use up your final few tiles at the end of the game, low-scoring pairs like AD, AS, AN, and AT can suddenly become unexpectedly useful. In Scrabble, two-letter words are often used only as a last resort. These examples are programmatically compiled from various online sources to illustrate current usage of the word 'impulsive.' The 2021 Enhanced Re-Released Edition of Quake has also, not surprisingly, gotten some technical upgrades. You can even, if you so desire, play the campaign co-op with up to four people, or play competitive multiplayer with 8 people online or 4 people local split-screen, and take advantage of the dedicated serves they’ve allotted. Unlike previous versions of the game, this will let you play with all your friends, even if they’re “Xbox 4 Lyfe” kind of people and you’re a PlayStation Purist. The 2021 Enhanced Re-Released Edition of Quake also adds some fun stuff for people who like to play online. Of course, that value increases if you didn’t play “Dimension Of The Past.” And then again if you missed the two expansions they added back in the day, “Scourge Of Armagon” and “Dissolution Of Eternity,” in which case this feels like two Quakes in one.Īnd that’s just if you play this on your own. As fun as “Dimension Of The Machine” may be, it’s decidedly $10.00’s worth of fun, not $60.00 worth. The game $10.00 price tag does make a big difference. While it has all-new levels full of enemies to frag, it also has the same gameplay mechanics as the main game and the other add-ons, which makes it feel like a lost classic from back when the Marvel Cinematic Universe was just Howard The Duck. Though it’s the other thing they added that makes it worth spending $10.00 on this even if you’ve played this game twice a year, every year since it came out: “Dimension Of The Machine,” a totally new expansion that, well, plays like classic Quake. Not surprisingly, “Dimension Of The Past” is included in this new version of Quake. Like, for instance, how this “Enhanced Re-Release” version of Quake comes courtesy of MachineGames, the good people who previously made the Wolfenstein games New Order, Old Blood, New Colossus, Youngblood, and Cyberpilot, and, more importantly, the Quake add-on “Dimension Of The Past,” which was released in 2016 in honor of the game’s 20th birthday. Yeah, sure, it’s mindless fun, but it’s also frantic fun and nicely varied fun and 86 other kinds of fun I could list but won’t because there’s more to talk about. You still side around like you just got new socks and had the floors waxed (while dealing with the natural inertia involved) you still spend most of your time trying to turn enemies into chunks, and part of your time trying to find the keys that open locked doors and while the game is still somewhat shallow (there’s no customization, no leveling up system), it’s actually this simplicity, and focus on frantic gunfights, that made the original - and thus this remake - so much fun. The spiritual successor to Doom (the 1993 original, not the 2016 reboot), Quake is, gameplay-wise, basically Doom but without the Hell-ish vacations. But rather than be nice, and tell him what he wants to know, you decide to be difficult and shoot, stab, and blow-up his soldiers. Quake has an evil entity from another dimension, called Quake, who uses portals to send his soldiers into our dimension to see what kind of resistance they face, so he can best plan his invasion. But I’ve apparently found the exception with the 2021 Enhanced Re-Release version of the sci-fi first-person shooter Quake (Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch, PC), which is mostly just a better looking version of an old game, but adds something new (maybe two) that makes it worth buying…especially at this game’s low price. I’ve been very open about the fact that if you remake a classic game, you need to update it to modern standards (my reviews of the Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2 remakes speak for themselves). It's more just the expectations set that Hollywood has for what works and what doesn't. YANG: I mean, yes, right? But the reality is this, right? When we talk about even a word as loaded as racism, it isn't always outright bigotry. YANG: I mean, it's a little too perhaps glib to just simply say, well, racism. I mean, we didn't see another basically all-Asian cast in a major Hollywood movie until 18 years later with "Crazy Rich Asians." Why do you think that was? You know, but despite the love and all the excitement and energy around this movie, Hollywood didn't really follow up with, like, a blockbuster sequel to "Crouching Tiger." It didn't follow up with a bunch of other Asian movies featuring storylines set in Asia with mostly Asian actors. But at the same time, every time I heard something like that, I was thinking to myself, Tom Cruise is an American Chow Yun-Fat, you know?ĬHANG: Totally. And to hear Americans talking back then about how, like, Chow Yun-Fat, at least for a small moment, was like some Chinese Tom Cruise - that was eye-opening to me because it was like, no, duh. Because this moment of wonder, this just incredible martial arts choreography by Yuen Wop-ping - this was something which most audiences in America would never have experienced.ĬHANG: Totally. YANG: But once I was actually in the theater - and it was a packed house - I remember just looking to my left and my right, realizing that the rest of the theater was full of, well, non-Asian folks who were there not knowing what to expect. And for me, this was something that just seemed like a breath of the familiar, the nostalgic. YANG: When this film came out, it was seen, at least initially, as kind of this exotic independent film, foreign movie that probably would not garner too much attention, certainly not much by way of general audience interest. Can you just take us back to what this moment meant at the time for, like, Asian Americans, for Asian filmmakers? So I remember this movie came out when I was still in law school, and my parents, my brother and I - we all made this point of going to see it together as a family because it was such a big deal to all of us. JEFF YANG: Thank you, Ailsa - so glad to be here.ĬHANG: Oh, I'm so excited to have this conversation. And to take us back to what a phenomenon this movie was and also how bittersweet this rerelease kind of is, we're joined now by author and culture critic Jeff Yang. And if you missed it the first time around back in 2000, it is reopening to theaters today. It was a huge deal for a movie that was almost totally in Mandarin with English subtitles. box offices by grossing more than $100 million. UNIDENTIFIED ACTOR: (As character, speaking Mandarin).ĬHANG: And this was a movie with an all-Asian cast, including Michelle Yeoh, who's up for a best actress Oscar this year. (SOUNDBITE OF FILM, "CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON") "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" was the movie that had it all - love, mystical weapons and out-of-this-world fight scenes.
